Facebook talks digital video at STEP Conference 2015

The number of Facebook video posts per person grew 138% in the UAE last year and over 50% of users in the region watch one video per day, revealed a panel discussion at Dubai’s STEP Conference today.

The discussion entitled “Future of video for brands and media”, noted that globally, there is an average of more than 3bn video views daily on Facebook and more than 2bn interactions every week on Facebook between public figures and their fans.

Jonathan Labin, head of Facebook, Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan, said: “With digital video viewing growing at an unprecedented rate, it has become increasingly important for brands and media to capture sight, sound, and motion particularly on mobile.

“As people are spending more time on smartphones and tablets, mobile is the greatest catalyst in the shift in consumer behaviour surrounding video.”

At the recent F8 global developers’ conference in San Francisco, USA, Facebook unveiled an embedded video player for non-Facebook websites designed to give more power to digital publishers in being able to provide the right ad to the right person at the right time.

The future of brands is seamlessly connected to how far marketing professionals utilise the power of digital video in their campaigns,” added Labin.
