It’s another installment of the weekly Tubefilter Chart of the Top 50 Most Viewed YouTube Channels Worldwide and if there’s one thing that can stop PewDiePie, it’s all of Europe.
Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg‘s PewDiePie channel is in the unfamiliar position of being in the #2 spot on the worldwide Top 50 this week. The 24-year-old Swedish gamer’s YouTube channel scored more than 63.8 million views in the last seven days, but still wasn’t able to stay at the top of the charts. That’s because the channel was competing with the whole of Europe, Russia, and parts of Northern Africa.
Eurovision claimed the #1 position in the world this week, thanks to an incredible finale of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. 37 of the 74 active members of the European Broadcasting Union participated in this year’s event, in which each member country competed against one another by way of song and dance over the course of three, live broadcast television events. The inspiring conclusion of the contest drove viewers to the Eurovision YouTube channel to the tune of nearly 88.8 million views during the week.
In third place is international pop star Katy Perry, whose “Birthday” is still getting lots of plays on YouTube. Perry’s channel ended the week with over 44.1 million views. Shakira is next up in the #4 spot. Fans of the singer took her up on her “Dare” and watched videos on her channel nearly 4.19 million times during the week. And rounding out the Top 5 is DisneyCollectorBR. The longtime chart topper and online video destination for videos of adults playing with children’s toys ended the week with more than of 39.7 million views.
The honor of Top Gainer this week goes to the aforementioned Eurovision. All the uploads to the international competition’s YouTube destination in a variety of languages drew a good number of views, but none was watched more than Conchita Wurst’s winning performance. The Austrian singer took home top prize in the contest and helped the Eurovision YouTube channel to an impressive 558% week-over-week increase in views.
