YouTube TV Adds More Channels to Its Lineup, Hoping to Differentiate Itself From Hulu’s Live Offering

YouTube TV, a skinny bundle of TV networks users can stream for a monthly fee, is adding new channels, bringing the total to 43.

The AMC collection of networks, which includes AMC, IFC, BBC America, Sundance and WEtv, is now available to stream. YouTube TV was the first major bundle to include all the broadcast networks, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, as well as news and entertainment networks from FOX and NBCU, and a dozen sports networks.

Also new to the service, two Spanish-language networks from NBCU, Telemundo and Universo.

Hulu launched its live cable service earlier this month. It offers subscribers 40 channels and a Hulu subscription for $39.99 per month, but currently doesn’t provide that specific bundle of AMC Networks. It took YouTube more than a month to secure those rights, so the AMC bundle might make its way over to Hulu some time soon.

The services from YouTube, Hulu, DirecTV Now and bundle options from SlingTV, come as cord-cutting sped up in the first quarter of 2017.

New research from MoffettNathanson found pay-TV subscriptions slid 2.4 percent year-over-year, the biggest quarterly drop on record. Nearly 8 million U.S. households have cut the cord in the last five years, as TV delivered via the internet takes over from cable and satellite delivery.
