The series, titled Literally Can’t Even, will appear on the app’s Snap Channel, as part of the new Discover feature, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sasha Spielberg and Emily Goldwyn, daughters of Steven Spielberg and John Goldwyn respectively, will write and star in the series. The duo will play fictionalized versions of themselves, and the plot will revolve around their lives in Los Angeles.
True to the app’s fleeting format, the weekly episodes will only be available for 24 hours before they disappear. Each installment will run under five minutes, and split screen will be used on occasion to add more detail, THR reports.
The ephemeral photo sharing app launched the Discover feature on Tuesday with 11 media partners including Vice, CNN, National Geographic, ESPN, and Cosmopolitan that will curate daily content. An AT&T-sponsored series called SnapperHero that will star various online video personalities is expected to debut soon. While SnapperHero was not created in partnership with Snapchat, it was the first series developed exclusively for the app.
With the foray into original content, the Santa Monica-based startup is following in the footsteps of companies like Netflix and Amazon as content platforms that went on to create original programming, although in a much shorter form.
